History of the IBR 

The Institute of Business and Regional Economics IBR was founded 40 years ago. An entrepreneur approached the university at the time, finding fault with the fact that they offered business programmes for young people only and not for engineers who needed business skills in their daily work. This impulse from the business world was the starting signal for the first continuing education programme (the precursor of today's MBA) and the foundation of the IBR. To this day, we maintain this high degree of practical relevance in all areas of mandated activity. We promote persons and organisations through our extensive range of continuing education programmes, and we conduct research and provide services with and for our external clients. We – the 100-plus employees of the Institute – have been given a mandate to support specialists and business leaders, companies, public authorities and NGOs in their development and in tackling challenging tasks. Our aim is to pass on our experience and the latest findings from our research activities to our young students, but also to the participants in our continuing and executive education programmes.
