Unter dem Titel «Not Only for the Taste of It» absolvierten Innenarchitektur-Studierende der Hochschule Luzern ein transdisziplinäres Semester am Departement Design & Kunst. Das Ziel dieses Semesters war es, sie für das Zusammenwirken verschiedener Disziplinen in ihrer zukünftigen Arbeitswelt zu sensibilisieren. Dazu wechselten die Studierenden für den Zeitraum von knapp sechs Monaten ihre Disziplin und beschäftigen sich mit den Aufgabenstellungen und Herausforderungen des Objektdesigns. Selbstorganisiertes Arbeiten und das Entwickeln einer persönlichen Haltung im Entwurfsprozess standen hierbei im Vordergrund.
Zum Semesterprojekt «Objektdesign» gehört immer die Kooperation mit einem Praxispartner – in diesem Fall der Orea AG, die es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, den Studierenden ein marktwirtschaftliches Feedback für ihre Produkte zu geben. Im Zentrum der Zusammenarbeit standen hierbei nicht die funktionalen Bestandteile der Küche, sondern der Mensch mit seinen Emotionen. Mit dem Ansatz, die Küche als Lebensraum zu verstehen, entstanden 28 eigenständige Projekte, die sich der Atmosphäre des Raums, den menschlichen Interaktionen oder der Sinnlichkeit des Kochens widmen. So zum Beispiel die Arbeit einer Studentin, die sich mit dem Entwurf eines Kühlschrankes, der ohne Strom funktioniert, auseinandergesetzt hat. Die Nahrungsmittel werden dazu in Tontöpfen gelagert, die einmal täglich mit Wasser begossen werden müssen – mittels adiabatischer Kühlung herrschen tiefe Temperaturen, und die Nahrungsmittel bleiben frisch.
Die Orea AG hat sich vertieft mit einer Auswahl an Projekten befasst und zwei der Entwürfe gekauft.
